SP383 Deluxe 435 HP Crate Engine

Category:
Description

OUR LATEST TAKE ON THE LEGENDARY 383 STROKER!

When it comes to producing big torque from a classic Small-Block Chevy, few combinations rival the 383 stroker. By combining a long 3.800-inch stroke with 4.000-inch bores, this setup delivers impressive low-end pulling power along with strong high-rpm horsepower.

Chevrolet Performance’s SP383 Stroker Crate Engine is part of the Street Performance lineup, designed for outstanding street manners with the muscle to handle occasional track use. It features lightweight aluminum cylinder heads modeled after the proven Fast Burn design, equipped with large intake runners and 2.00/1.55-inch valves. Beehive-style valve springs enhance high-rpm durability and stability, allowing the SP383 to spin higher and produce more power. The result is 435 horsepower and 445 lb.-ft. of torque—a perfect mix of street-friendly drivability and hard-hitting performance.

Built around a cast-iron block with four-bolt mains, this engine also includes a forged steel crankshaft, an aggressive hydraulic roller camshaft, and a high-flow aluminum intake manifold for excellent breathing and reliability.

INSTALLATION NOTES

  • The 435-hp rating was achieved in GM testing using a high-rise single-plane intake manifold (P/N 12496822) and a 770-cfm carburetor with vacuum secondaries (P/N 19170093).

  • For improved hood clearance, the Chevrolet Performance dual-plane intake manifold (P/N 12366573) may be used, though it typically reduces peak output by approximately 15–20 horsepower.

  • Supplied with a 12.750″ externally balanced, 153-tooth automatic transmission flexplate. A corresponding externally balanced flywheel is required for manual transmission use.

  • Intended for pre-1976 street vehicles or off-road applications only.

  • Not approved for marine use.

IMPORTANT: Always use a distributor equipped with a melonized steel gear when running long-block or partial engines that use a steel camshaft. Failure to do so will result in camshaft and gear damage.
